Lek U Culture Festival was established as a platform to celebrate, honor, and sustain Sierra Leonean culture both locally and across the global diaspora. Rooted in heritage, the festival creates space for cultural expression, storytelling, and community connection.

In 2025, the festival centered on Bridging Generations, fostering meaningful interactions between elders and youth. This exchange was powerful and affirming, revealing the depth of wisdom carried by our traditions and the curiosity of the next generation. However, it also underscored a critical reality: cultural connection alone is not enough without structure, documentation, and intentional safeguards.

The 2026 Lek U Culture Festival theme: Preserve It. Pass It. Protect It responds to this call by shifting from cultural connection to cultural responsibility. This year’s focus emphasizes the importance of preserving traditions accurately, passing them on with integrity, and protecting them from erosion, misrepresentation, or loss.

Through education, workshops, performances, and intergenerational knowledge transfer, the festival commits to ensuring Sierra Leonean culture is not only celebrated but sustained with respect and intention for generations to come.
